In late 2019, Connetics extended the Alexandra substation with the installation of a 5MVA transformer. This extension was of high importance, as this new transformer is a critical spare that will be utilised throughout Central Otago to support the growing community.
The installation of the transformer involved:
- earth grid installation to cover the new area
- repairs to the existing grid
- foundations for all of the equipment
- 33kV bus extension
- 33kV ABS disconnector installation
- overhead structure for a mobile substation to be connected to if required
- all associated 33kv cables
- 33kV circuit breaker installation and testing
- 11kV cable installation
- 11kV RMU installation and cut into existing 11kV supply
- replacement of existing underground cable with new cable from RMU to overhead pole connection point
- SEL relay and communication commissioning
- new security fence installation
