Orion Group is proud to be powering Tīrama Mai , Ōtautahi Christchurch’s annual winter festival of light.
Tīrama Mai celebrates Puaka-Matariki – the Māori New Year and the coming of winter, through a stunning display of light and sound.
The festival features 26 different lighting displays, artworks and interactive installations included in the third annual Tīrama Mai event.
As Principal Partners, Orion and its subsidiary Connetics will provide the necessary power connections to light up Victoria Square and Te Ara Ōtākaro The Avon River between Victoria Street and the Bridge of Remembrance.
Whakapapa is at the heart of Matariki, accounting for the way in which all things have been created, including the stars, earth, sky, oceans, rivers, elements, minerals, plants, animals and all people.
“Tīrama Mai is a wonderful way to celebrate Te Tau Hou Māori with whānau and friends, and see installations from some of Ōtautahi Christchurch’s brightest artists. We’re thrilled to be able to help bring the powerful stories of Puaka and Matariki to life with these immersive installations,” says Orion External Engagement Lead James Harding.
“We invite our community to come out and celebrate Puaka-Matariki at this free event.”
‘Tīrama Mai – Bringing the Light’ runs from Friday 7 July at 5pm to Saturday 15 July at 10pm. It is proudly produced by Christchurch City Council and powered by Orion and Connetics.
Supporting partners are The Hits, Dark Sky Project, Christchurch Airport, Ministry for Culture and Heritage, The Crowne Plaza and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
